Greeneville Sun article

I am happy to report a successful show at the Mason House Gallery. Although, it is not over yet (my work will be there all month), so if you have not stopped by, please do! Also happy to say that Thursday's reception was successful as well. About a dozen or so people showed up to view my work and their comments and encouragement were so appreciated. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported my work! Being my very first reception, I didn't know what to expect - and truthfully it is odd to stand in a hall for two hours, have people comment on your work and say "thank you" repeatedly - but I think it was still a good showing. Often, as an artist, you are isolated a bit and having others be able to tell you what they see in your work in person is a valuable experience. Awkward, perhaps, but in a good way???

At any rate, I am learning how to talk about my work and what it means to me. It is scary, as I have often heard artists say, to show your work to the world because in essence, you are baring your soul. It feels vulnerable, and there is fear of rejection and failure and success and acceptance all at once. If I am rejected, my work is meaningless. If I am accepted, others can really see the real me, strengths and weaknesses, and I am exposed. But as with all the important stuff in life, so very necessary to trudge through the fear and do the work required in order to get what you want from it. Otherwise, what is the point?

I have a few pictures from the gallery, but none from the reception, because I forget about pictures often when things get going. So none of me, but some to let you see the gallery itself, which is beautiful. The brick walls are a perfect backdrop for art, being art in themselves. I love to visit downtown Greeneville (or anywhere, really) to see the old buildings and just feel the history of the place. And become part of the history of the place, if I may be so profound. I hope to exhibit there again.

Oh, and to update, I am no longer attending the Greeneville Farmer's Market. It was not profitable. Moving on.

(I may make an appearance elsewhere, however, if I end up with excess pumpkins this year, as I usually do. Hurray for July! Time to plant Halloween pumpkins!)

Thanks again to everyone for your support of my life's work and chosen profession. You are deeply appreciated!
